Begun in February, 2001, Kid’s Café provides neighborhood children and youth with a full, nutritious meal afterschool, and afternoons during the summer. Through the support of a linkage with the Greater Chicago Food Depository and private donations, Kid’s Café offers meals and nutrition education to all participants. The family atmosphere offers the children and youth the opportunity to learn the social skills which are an important part of sharing a meal with others.

This school year, Kid’s Café is open Monday through Friday from 3:00-4:30 pm, under the direction of Yolanda Gonzalez. The program provides meals for 3-18 year olds involved in programming as well as those who come in from the neighborhood – ordinarily between 20 and 40 each day. In February, 2019, Kid’s Cafe celebrated its “eighteenth birthday” with great food and fun for all, including a voting process in which the participants chose their favorites of each Food Group (as a way of honoring the Kid’s Café being of ‘voting age’!)
